Since moving to Australia I have consumed LOTS of coffee (it just tastes so bloody good!) and have been exploring the local cafes. I initially missed all my London vegan faves (Wild Food Cafe, Pride's Kitchen, The Gate) but I soon discovered the wonders that Sydney has to offer,
There are some amazing 100% plant-based eateries as well as cafes with awesome vegan options on offer. I have been making lists of the top places I have eaten in from Manly, to Glebe, to CBD, Surry Hills and Bondi... and a few in between! I am sure my list will continue to grow as I settle further into Sydney life.
Some of my favourites...
Vida - Bondi Beach - Vegan Options
Ok so this is my local cafe and probably top place for coffee in Sydney. Seriously, you NEED to go here. They have recently launched a new menu to include some banging vegan options including vegan waffles (first pic above) and a full vegan brekkie with scrambled tofu (above). They also do colourful lattes including a Red Velvet Beetroot latte which is too good for this world. And you can't go wrong with a smoothie bowl. Click HERE for their Instagram
Shift - Surry Hills - 100% Vegan
Oh my days. This place is da' bomb. From Buddha Bowls to jam packed toasties and colourful lattes. Let me just say, The Breaky Bun is amazing. Like out of this world amazing. It has pulled jackfruit and vegan eggs which were absolutely unreal. The best thing I have eaten in a long time. Shift also has a fully packed fridge and freezer of vegan goodies that you can buy. I bought some amazing vegan cheese and kombucha to take home! Click HERE for their Instagram
The Green Lion - Rozelle - 100% Vegan
Fancy pub grub? Then this is the one for you. We pretty much ordered the entire menu (no joke, we are hungry folk) and filled up on red wine and brownies too. Their 'fish' basket is out of this world and by far my favourite thing here. Also rate their tacos, hotdogs and their desserts are top notch. Click HERE for their Instagram
Gigi's Pizzeria - Newtown - 100% Vegan
This place lives up to the hype! We queued for about 45 mins on a Saturday night for a table and it was worth it.
In 2015, after almost a decade of selling some of Sydney’s best pizza, Gigi’s owner Marco Mattino, decided to take all animal products off the menu.
“For me, it’s something that I have to do, whether I believe it's going to do well or not is not the issue. I don't think it’s right to use ingredients that are unethical.” Marco had been vegetarian for years but went vegan five months before the menu overhaul.
The choice on the menu was phenomenal and we opted for the blue cheese pizza and a pumpkin puree calzone.. and a pizza with POTATO on top (plus some starters). I am a sucker for all things potato so this was my favourite thing. While other couples were sharing a pizza between two (suckers!), we went rogue and got THREE pizzas between two. Gigi's also has vegan tiramisu which was magnificent. Because we obviously got dessert too. Cue drool face emoji... Click HERE for their Instagram
The Hold - Manly - Vegan Options
This is my kind of moody bar. Dimly lit, ropes on the ceiling and decked out like the inside of a ship. The have a meat menu but each option has a vegan counterpart. Even the drinks (with egg white) are made vegan friendly by using aqua faba (like this banging one above!)! A good spot if you're feeling like burgers with killer cocktails in a great setting. Soul Burger - Various locations (we went to Glebe) - 100% Vegan
Pulled pork burgers, grilled chicken burgers and battered fish burgers are just some of the options that you will see on the menu of this 100% plant-based burger joint. My favourite every time is the fish burger, Just. So. Damn. Good. Click HERE for their Instagram
Joe's Sandwich Bar - CBD - 100% Vegan
Joe's Sandwich Bar has a board of filling options to choose from, ranging from miso caramel eggplant to silverbeet roasted coconut & lime shaved broccoli, enjoying unusual combinations (potato and raisins go amazing well together!) all wedged between two slices of thick-cut bread. And that bread is none other than Iggy’s infamous bread, which I’m informed is the best bread in Sydney. Click HERE for Joe's Instagram
The Wedge Espresso - Glebe - Vegan Options
Vegan pancakes, vegan pancakes, vegan pancakes! Plus great coffee. Need I say more? *mic drop* Click HERE for their Instagram
