After feeling mugged off (geddit?!) from the lack of tea here in Oz, I had a tea-rrific Sunday afternoon brewing up my own concoctions at the T Totaler Tea in Newtown.
Sydney is known for its fantastic coffee but being Irish (and having lived in London for 7 years) I am a tea drinker at heart. A cup of tea solves ALL woes. Fact. On occasions when I have been in hospital due to UC flare ups, that first cup of tea after procedures is so comforting and feels like an actual ‘hug in a mug’. I have been drinking tea since I can remember: Irish breakfast blend with a dash of milk or a slice of lemon if I was feeling fancy.
Nowadays my go to faves are Earl Grey or Rooibos, but I am also a huge fan of anything with cinnamon or cloves. Basically blends that smell like Chrimbo.
We arrived to T Totaller Tea’s flagship shop to find an array of flavour samples for us to try, to help us decide what we’d like in our own blend. We were also treated to a sparkling herbal tea which was a game changer!
The event was hosted by Paul, one of the owners (a husband and wife duo), who was super passionate about the process and talked us through how to create our own teas. We had a black tea base which we could flavour however our taste buds fancied.
I went for a clove, cinnamon and calendula blend. Aside from smelling (and tasting!) like Christmas, these ingredients are also anti-inflammatory, aid digestion and lower cholesterol. I packed my tea masterpiece in a jar and home I went to... er... drink more tea.
